Adding distiller's grains and molasses on fermentation quality of rice straw silages Ciência Rural
Yuan,XianJun; Dong,ZhiHao; Desta,Seare Tajebe; Wen,AiYou; Zhu,Xiaoxuan; Rong,Ting; Shao,Tao.
ABSTRACT: Ensilage is a simple and low-cost strategy to enable long term preservation and environmentally friendly utilization of agricultural by-products, such as straws and distiller's grains (DG) for ruminants. Effect of mixing different proportions of DG and rice straw (i.e. 0, 10, 20 or 30% of DG) with or without 5% molasses addition on fermentation and chemical variables of silages was evaluated. The study was conducted as a randomized blocks design in a 4 × 2 factorial arrangement, with three replications, using laboratory silos of 1L capacity (n=24). Despite a significant interaction (P<0.01) between DG and molasses addition was observed for most variables, in general the increased addition of DG linearly decreased the pH value, acetic acid...

Experimental study on the performance of microwave assisted Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) pretreatment of rice straw CIGR Journal
Singh, Renu; Tiwari, Sapna; Srivastava, Monika; Shukla, Ashish.
Biofuels are essentials as they can provide impending substitute for fossil fuels.  Rice straw has gained much attention from researchers because of its usability as a potential feedstock for bioethanol production.  Pre-treatments are crucial for enzymatic hydrolysis of rice straw.  In this study, combination of microwave and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is employed for the delignification of rice straw.  The Response surface methodology is used to optimize the pretreatment conditions with respect to H2O2 concentration, microwave power and irradiation time.  Under optimum conditions, maximum reducing sugar obtained through microwave assisted H2O2 is 1,453.64 µg/mL.  The chemical and morphological analysis ascertained that the surface of the samples treated...

Improvement of productivity and polysaccharide-protein complex in Agaricus blazei PAB
Chu,Jiunn-Nan; Young,Chiu-Chung; Tan,Chen-Chung; Wu,Szu-Pei; Young,Li-Sen.
The objective of this work was to assess the productivity and polysaccharide-protein complex content of Agaricus blazei on rice straw medium, in comparison to conventional sawdust, using four casing soils. The A. blazei strain used was BCRC36814T, purchased from the Food Industry Research and Development Institute, Hsin-Chu, Taiwan. The two media were evaluated as to A. blazei productivity, harvesting time, and production costs. The experimental design used was a randomized complete block, with four replicates. Three local casing soils - Typic Paleudult (CCe), Typic Udorthent (Tq) and Oxyaquic Paleudult (TSp) - were compared to imported peat soil (PS, Saprists, Histosols), used as the control. The productivity of A. blazei using Tq and TSp soil was...

Occurrence of physiological disease in flooded rice fields Ciência Rural
Brancher,Ademar; Camargo,Flávio Anastácio de Oliveira; Santos,Gabriel de Araújo.
The aim of this report is to desenhe the occurrence of the physiological disease "Parrot beak" in flooded rice grown in Rio de Janeiro state soils. The symptoms occurred particularly in the presence of decomposing organic material, affecting the yield because of the high percentage of sterile spickelets.

Physiological studies on carboxymethyl cellulase formation by Aspergillus terreus DSM 826 BJM
Abdel-Fatah,Osama M.; Hassan,Mohamed M.; Elshafei,Ali M.; Haroun,Bakry M.; Atta,Housam M.; Othman,Abdelmageed M..
Physiological studies were conducted to determine the optimum cultural conditions for maximal carboxymethyl cellulase (CMCase) formation by Aspergillus terreus DSM 826. Shaking condition at 150 rpm is favorable for the production of CMCase from rice straw and sugar cane bagasse. The highest enzyme yield was obtained at the third day of incubation at 30ºC for both cases; however CMCase formation occurred at a broad range of pH values, with maximal formation of A. terreus DSM 826 CMCase at pH 4.5 and 5.0 when rice straw and sugar cane bagasse were used as sole carbon source, respectively. Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) was found to be a good inducer for CMCase formation in both agricultural wastes with CMC concentrations of 0.5 and 1.0 % (w/v) in case of rice...

Plantio direto do feijão na palha do arroz: alternativa para controle da "Mela do Feijoeiro". Infoteca-e

Rice growth and yield are adversely affected by soil salinity. The application of organic matter is a successful technique for saline soil remediation. The experiment was conducted to determine the effect of different organic materials on the response of rice in saline soil. Experimental design was a randomized complete block with 4 replicates comprised 4 treatments: 1) no organic material application (control) 2) sesbania application at the rate of 1,000 kg/rai 3) rice straw application at the rate of 1,000 kg/rai and 4) sesbania at the rate of 500 kg/rai and rice straw at the rate of 500 kg/rai. The result were shown that sesbania and rice straw treatment had the highest rice dry weight in all growth stages, the highest nutrient uptake at booting stage,...

Pornthip Srimongkol; Suphasit Sithapanich; Wimolnan Kanket.
The experiment was conducted to determine the effect of nutrient management and no-tillage system on rice growth and yield of rice. Experimental design was a randomized complete block with 4 replicates comprised 5 treatments: 1) Control (Conventional tillage and recommended fertilizer application) 2) Conventional tillage with sunn hemp incorporation 3) Conventional tillage with rice straw incorporation 4) No tillage with sunn hempmulching and 5) No tillage with rice straw mulching. All treatments received the same rate of N at 18.6 kg N per rai. The result showed that conventional tillage with sunn hemp incorporation had highest rice dry weight and was significantly different as compare to conventional tillage (control). Also, the conventional tillage...
